The moment the car stopped, Alex was out. He practically skipped towards the front door, the old wooden boards practically calling to him. A wave of exhilaration coursed through him, a feeling he rarely experienced.

His sister, Jess, trailed behind, looking as though she’d rather be anywhere else. “Don’t go crazy,” she said, but Alex couldn't hear her.

He knew what he would do with it. He would create a space where everyone could relax. He would create a garden and a workshop, a sanctuary of sorts. He began pacing back and forth, mentally arranging furniture and imagining a warm fire, ready to begin at the very moment.
