Mark leaped from his chair, a grin splitting his face. The scholarship – it was a dream come true! He could finally focus on his music, dedicate himself to practice, and leave behind the constant struggle of working to pay his way. He grabbed his guitar, already imagining the hours he could now devote to songwriting and composition. He couldn't wait to compose his first symphony.

The official notification arrived, a curt email. He’d been misinformed. The scholarship was, sadly, allocated to someone else. The music within him seemed to fall silent, replaced by a hollow echo. He dropped the guitar, the wood of it suddenly heavy, useless.
