Gemotions

I hummed a jaunty tune as I prepared for Michael’s return. I’d spent all day building the aquarium, meticulously placing the colorful gravel and the little castle. I felt light, buoyant.

I’d already picked out the fish: a vibrant mix of tetras, a graceful betta, and a bottom-dwelling catfish. The thought of them swimming in their watery paradise filled me with a deep satisfaction.

I knew he might grumble, but I could feel that it was all going to be alright. A playful, nervous flutter filled my stomach. I was sure he'd love it.
