Even the sight of the email in his inbox made David’s hands start to sweat. The possibility of success, of finally achieving his dream, made his heart race. He leaned in, his fingers poised over the mouse, as if a single click could change his life. He took a deep breath.

He began to read, his eyes quickly scanning the words, a smile slowly creeping across his face. He felt a surge of elation. But the positive comments came to an end. It was a rejection.

He felt the color drain from his face. The air in the room suddenly felt thin. The weight of disappointment pressed down on him, suffocating the hope he'd harbored.
