Gemotions

The old house felt alive with secrets, and Maya was a willing conspirator. Her grandmother’s tales of a life lived by the book, filled with proper manners and restrained emotions, had always felt… flat. And now, at last, she might find the hidden truth.

She uncovered a leather-bound book from under a pile of discarded quilts. Inside, tucked amongst the brittle pages, were photographs. The first one showed her grandmother, not in a demure pose, but playfully posing with a male friend, her eyes sparkling with laughter.

Maya felt her face flush with a sense of pure delight, her heart doing a little dance in her chest.

"This is fantastic!" she murmured to herself.
