The news broke during the weekly lab meeting. Mark practically vibrated in his seat. Professor Anya Sharma was leaving for a visiting professorship abroad! He couldn't help the broad smile that stretched across his face.

He raised his hand. "Can we, uh, get some pizza to celebrate?" A cheer went up from the other students, but Mark's mind was racing. He imagined the possibilities; his research could move in any direction now, unbound by her particular interests. He spent the rest of the meeting doodling in his notebook, sketching out the new path he could take.
