The library was strangely quiet when Ben read the announcement. Professor Ito, his thesis advisor, was leaving the university. He let out a low whistle of surprise, his cheeks heating.

He slammed his textbook shut with a satisfying thud. He felt a palpable jolt. He could already imagine the possibilities. He could finally delve into the niche area of his research he’d been yearning to explore. He had a sudden urge to run, to shout from the rooftops. He quickly pulled out his notebook and started to scribble ideas, his pen practically flying across the page.
