The antique dealer had just left, and Martha bounced on the balls of her feet, a giddy feeling welling up inside her. The Victorian mirror she’d snagged for a steal! The way the light caught its beveled edges... pure magic. She couldn’t wait to hang it in the hallway.

She pulled out her phone, dialing her best friend, Brenda. “Guess what, Brenda! I got the mirror! And you will NOT believe the price.” She giggled, tapping her foot as she waited for the connection. Brenda picked up, and Martha poured out the details, her voice bubbling with excitement.

Then, the realtor called, his voice somber. He needed to speak with her. Something about the history of the house. History? Even better! “Oh, I *love* history!” she exclaimed to the phone. “Tell me everything!”

The realtor’s tone dropped further. He spoke of a murder. An unsolved case. In the house. Martha’s eyes widened, a grin stretching across her face. A *murder*! She felt a shiver of delight ripple through her. This house just got so much cooler.
