The vibrant colors of the waiting room suddenly seemed gaudy, cloying. "Your cholesterol is… remarkably low." Emily's voice was a brittle whisper. Her own diet was a constant battle, a never-ending struggle against unhealthy choices and the damage they caused. The doctor continued, oblivious. “It appears there has been a mix-up. These results are not yours.”

Emily looked at the medical documents, the glowing report of another woman’s health and well-being. She imagined that woman’s life, filled with energy, with ease. The familiar weight on her chest intensified.

Her breath hitched. She wished, with a ferocity that surprised even herself, that the records were hers.
