The news report flashed across the television screen. *Local Hero Saves Child from Fire*. The hero was David, her colleague. The story was hers. She had written all of it.

She felt a sudden chill, a wave of nausea. She'd risked everything to get the story, the interviews, the photographs. But David, the editor, had submitted it under his own name. He was getting all the praise.

She sat motionless on the couch, the narrative of her life suddenly unrecognizable. The hero's face on the screen made her skin crawl. She wanted to yell, to shout. Instead, she sat in stunned silence, watching her own words become someone else's glory.
