Gemotions

The email notification popped up on her phone, a stark white rectangle against the dark background. "Party Cancelled". The words seemed to jump off the screen, mocking her. She dropped the phone on the counter and the screen shattered. She had been ecstatic all week, anticipating the celebration. The decorations. The presents. The attention.

She crossed her arms and stared out the window, watching the happy couples walking in the park. She saw them laughing and holding hands. She felt a surge of heat in her chest, a burning sensation that started at her ribs and spread to her throat. She wanted to scream. She wanted to grab them and make them listen, make them understand. What about her? Her feelings? Her disappointment?

The phone was now useless. Maybe the whole world was useless. She grabbed the keys and headed for her car.
