Gemotions

The air crackled with a strange energy. The bear sat on a low, dusty table, its stitched smile a permanent fixture. It was a mirror image of the bear he had loved, that was lost in a house fire. A burning sensation erupted in his throat.

A boy, maybe seven or eight, was already tugging at his mother’s sleeve. He wanted it. His mother was smiling, already reaching for her purse. The scene was playing out as it should have, for someone else.

He walked away, shoving his hands into his pockets, and the air around him seemed to freeze. He knew the boy would have it forever.
