The aroma of freshly baked bread clung to Amelia's clothes as she waited, perched on a park bench. Across the way, a woman with a cascade of fiery red hair was laughing, tossing a frisbee with… well, with *him*. Amelia's jaw tightened. She’d meticulously prepared a picnic basket, a bottle of the wine he’d claimed was his favorite, the works. He was *late*, again.

A knot formed in her stomach. Amelia ran a hand through her perfectly styled hair, smoothing out a nonexistent crease. She’d spent hours getting ready, choosing the dress he loved, hoping for a repeat of their first date. Now, she just sat, observing the effortless joy radiating from them.

The frisbee soared, and the woman with the red hair bent to pick it up, her laughter echoing. Amelia found herself clenching her fists. He finally waved, calling something over to her that she couldn't quite make out, and then *they* started walking her way.
