"Oh, great," Liam muttered, tossing the invitation onto his desk. He hadn't been expecting it, the reminder of all that he'd yet to achieve. His pulse quickened as he looked at the pictures online. Everyone seemed to have blossomed, or so it appeared.

He had spent the morning trying to convince himself he was content. He'd looked at his small house, his quiet life, and told himself it was enough. Now, staring at the invitation, he felt the inadequacy press down on him. A sudden dryness seized his throat.

He started furiously cleaning his desk, straightening the clutter, organizing the papers. He wanted to feel in control. He wanted to somehow make his own life reflect the shiny facade of the invitations.
