Gemotions

The band began to play a slow song. He watched his parents take to the dance floor, moving together with a familiar ease. A cold dread settled in his stomach. He wasn't even sure if he'd ever be as happy, as settled, as they were.

He felt a pang of resentment, a deep and unbidden desire to disrupt their perfectly orchestrated happiness. He clenched his fists, forcing himself to smile and clap along with the music. But inside, he felt like a storm was brewing, ready to unleash its fury.
