A knot tightened in David’s stomach as Sarah described the archery range at Camp Firefly, the same one he had spent hours perfecting his aim at. He pretended to be engrossed in his spreadsheets, but his attention was elsewhere, consumed by her recounting of sun-drenched days.

Her voice, usually a soothing melody, grated on his nerves. She spoke of friendships forged, triumphs achieved, and silly games played under a starlit sky. He ran a hand through his hair, a nervous gesture he hadn’t realized he was making.

“It was just… magical,” Sarah sighed, a dreamy look in her eyes. David felt a familiar heat creep up his neck. He wanted to interrupt, to interject with his own tales, but the words caught in his throat. He just wanted to be done with the conversation.
