Gemotions

The news spread like wildfire. The old oak, the one that had shadowed the entire block, was down. The sight of it filled her with a strange, prickly sensation.

She drove past the house, very slowly, three times. She slowed down as the tree had been brought down from the road, it was blocking a lot of the view. She kept looking out.

Back in her own kitchen, she started washing dishes with extra force. She remembered all the times she’d looked up at the oak, marveling at its grandeur. She never had a tree like that. She never would.

She slammed the plates into the drying rack.
