The house was being sold for more than she had made in the last 10 years. Catherine's pulse quickened. She felt a heat rush through her, a mixture of anger and sadness. She had always equated the house with her family, but seeing it like this, detached, for sale, it hit different.

She sat in silence at her desk, staring at the pictures. The living room, where she used to read books, now had a trendy couch. The backyard, where she played as a kid, had a new patio. She couldn’t shake the feelings, it made her feel... nothing.

She started to cry, her shoulders shaking, but she didn’t know why.
