And the house was, shall we say, a point of contention.” Mark felt a strange prickling sensation on his skin as he listened. A point of contention. His house, his meticulously chosen, beautifully renovated house, was now a footnote in a tragedy.

He'd spent years building his life, brick by brick. His ex-wife, they'd agreed, would take the house. It's how it worked, the story was always the same.

He thought of the new owners, the ones who had a story to inherit. The ones who would have a history with the place. He imagined them sitting on his perfectly arranged patio, sipping wine, and knowing.
