He stared at the business card. Dr. Ben Carter, Licensed Clinical Psychologist. The same Ben Carter who’d once broken his favorite toy and then denied it.

He traced the raised lettering with his thumb. A knot tightened in his gut. His own career, in sales, felt increasingly hollow. He spent his days chasing numbers, a constant cycle of pressure and rejection. Ben, on the other hand, was probably listening to people's problems and getting paid for it.

He tossed the card onto his desk, the glossy surface reflecting the harsh fluorescent light of his office. He felt a familiar hollowness, a deep ache he couldn't quite name.
