Daniel, his back stiff, ran a finger down the brittle paper. “Go to Burning Man. Run a marathon. Fall in love.” His father, a man of routine and order, had written these things. The man who'd always pushed Daniel toward sensible careers and financial stability. Daniel felt a sudden urge to scream. He was stuck in a job he loathed, with a life partner he felt indifferent toward, and a bank account that was barely above zero. The paper felt hot in his grip, as if it was taunting him.
