The small, neat handwriting filled the page: “Ride a horse on the open plains. Stargaze in the desert. Build a treehouse.” Her mother, the woman who’d always been so… practical, had dreamed of such whimsical things. Chloe, on the other hand, had always been grounded, realistic, sensible. Her apartment was immaculate, her career was secure, and her life was, by all accounts, successful. But looking at the list, a bitter taste formed in her mouth.
