The new kitchen gleamed. It was so flawless, so perfect, and so completely out of his reach. A knot formed in his stomach. He'd seen the work crew come and go, transforming the bland, outdated space next door. He hated it.

He imagined the meals cooked there, the dinner parties, the ease and comfort of the new kitchen. A bitter taste lingered in his mouth.

He found himself comparing his own cramped, outdated kitchen to his neighbor’s. His own home, once a source of pride, now felt inadequate, a testament to his own limitations. He slammed the cupboard door, the sound sharp in the quiet house.
