The weight of the book in his hands felt immense. Andrew knew immediately, seeing the name on the cover. He and his partner, Ben, had been together for ten years, and this novel was supposed to be a tribute. Instead, the story portrayed Andrew as a shadow figure, a support to Ben's grand schemes.

Andrew felt a sudden burning heat in his cheeks. He threw the book down and went to the back yard, to the garden he tended with great care. He began to furiously weed, his movements harsh and erratic.
