Dust swirled around Amelia as she brushed off the ancient wooden chest. It was buried deep in her aunt’s neglected attic. Inside, alongside a faded prom dress, lay a collection of letters. Each one, meticulously penned, spoke of a passionate, teenage love affair.

Amelia’s own romantic life was a string of fleeting disappointments. Dates that fizzled before they even sparked. She'd always envied her aunt's reputation, the stories of her youthful charm and the devotion she’d inspired. The letters were physical proof of a life she couldn't replicate.

She felt a strange ache in her chest, a physical manifestation of the feelings swirling inside. Amelia, usually a voracious reader, could barely focus on the eloquent prose. She slammed the lid shut, her hands clammy. Leaving the attic, she slammed the door behind her, the noise echoing through the silent house.
