"Seriously?" Mark muttered, shoving the newspaper aside. Sarah, his girlfriend, had been talking for weeks about a potential move. Now, the building going condo. The timing felt cruelly intentional.

He stared at the page, the glossy pictures of the planned renovations mocking him. A rooftop deck with a grill? A modern gym? He remembered the leaky faucet in his bathroom, the constant draft in the living room.

He stood up, pushing away from the table. "I need a walk," he said, his voice flat. He needed to get out, away from the constant reminders of what he couldn't afford. He felt a dull ache in his chest, a feeling he couldn't quite name.
