“Unbelievable!” Mark shouted, leaping from the couch. He ran laps around the living room, a wild grin plastered across his face. He'd been accepted! The scholarship would change everything. The weight of his responsibilities was gone; he felt weightless, soaring. He saw himself succeeding, a beacon of hope for his family. He could hardly contain himself, the anticipation building with every passing moment.

Then, he opened the email. The air left his lungs, and he dropped onto the couch. The world no longer seemed so bright.
