“We think you would be a great pitcher.” The coach's statement was a simple sentence, but for Leo, it felt like a declaration of war on boredom. A wide grin stretched across his face, exposing a mouthful of slightly crooked teeth. He felt a giddy lightness, a feeling that made him want to do a cartwheel right there on the grass. He almost asked if he could.

He grinned. Every nerve ending seemed to be vibrating with anticipation. He imagined himself on the mound, the crack of the bat, the roar of the crowd. He clenched his fists, feeling a surge of power coursing through his veins. He imagined the way he would throw the ball, his arm moving smoothly. He could hardly wait.
