The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air as David hurried to his meeting with Mr. Bellweather. Today, the project would be greenlit. His work, his vision, would finally be validated. He felt a joyous zing of anticipation course through him.

He reached Mr. Bellweather’s office, the door ajar. Inside, a note lay on the desk. "Gone. For good. Cheers."

David stared at the note, then at the empty room, then at his own hands, and then he burst into laughter. He felt a giddy lightness, a buoyancy, as though he could float away. He left the office, walking on air.
