She felt as though she could fly. Every little detail of the venue, from the floral arrangements to the lighting, made her heart soar. She’d spent the last few weeks preparing for this, not just to look good, but to feel good, and it seemed to have worked. A bubble of giggles escaped her lips as she snagged a mini quiche from a passing waiter.

Then, there he was. Her ex, across the room. She could feel her cheeks flush and a sudden, irresistible urge to break into a silly dance. She took a deep breath, smoothing down her dress. This was a challenge, a fun little game.

"Wow," she breathed, finding herself at his side, her voice laced with amusement. "Fancy seeing *you* here." She hoped her eyes betrayed her secret; she wanted him to know she felt this.
