He felt like a balloon, ready to float away. The food was delicious, the company was great, and the whole event was a perfect blend of elegance and celebration. He was radiating good cheer, his jokes landing with extra oomph, his laughter echoing. He even felt generous and kind.

Then he saw her. His ex. The world tilted on its axis, and his internal engine revved. He felt a sudden, almost frantic urge to move, to connect, to communicate. His chest felt tight, in a good way.

"You look..." he began, then stopped, searching for the right word. "Incredible," he finished, feeling foolishly giddy.
