Gemotions

The world shimmered around David. Colors seemed brighter, music louder. He practically bounced down the street, whistling a jaunty tune. The air smelled of possibilities. He had just gotten the promotion, the one he had wanted, the one he had craved. Reaching his apartment, he saw Sarah fiddling with her phone, her back to him.

"Guess what?" he announced, beaming. He envisioned their future, filled with shared experiences and dreams. Sarah turned, her expression unreadable. She quickly hid her phone. "That's great," she said, her voice a little flat.

David felt the slightest dip in his mood, but it was nothing compared to the soaring feeling he had. He didn't want to bring down the feeling. "We should celebrate!" he declared, already planning an evening out. He pulled her close, ready to share his good news, wanting her to be happy too.
