The garden was ablaze with color, the roses in full bloom. It was the anniversary of their first date, and Emily felt like she was floating. She’d spent the morning making her partner, Liam’s, favorite breakfast. She watched Liam pace in the living room, listening to a phone call that sounded unusually intense.

Her heart fluttered with affection. She pictured the future. A life of shared laughter, quiet evenings, and the comfort of love. The phone call ended abruptly. Liam came outside, his face a little strained. "Happy anniversary," he said, pulling her close.

Emily, overflowing with warmth, kissed him back. She wanted to share the beauty of their day, the joy bubbling inside her. The phone could wait. Their love was all that mattered.
