Gemotions

A giggle escaped David's lips as he signed the visitor's log at the school reception. He couldn’t help it. This felt like a gift. His daughter, Chloe, was going to have Mrs. Davies, the music teacher he had adored. He knew every song she taught, every trick she used to make learning fun. He felt suddenly young, almost weightless.

He pictured the music room, the scent of wood and the vibrant posters decorating the walls. He pictured Chloe's face as she would learn to play the recorder, as he had. He wanted to burst into song right then and there.

He reached the classroom door, and stood for a moment, listening to the faint sounds of a piano. He took a deep breath, and then pushed the door open. He felt like he'd stepped back in time.
