The world was newly vibrant, like a painting that had been cleaned of years of grime. George was positively buzzing with energy. He discovered that the new kid, barely out of college, was making more than he was. An odd sensation, akin to a rush of air, filled his lungs. He was ready to soar.

He immediately began drafting a list of accomplishments, a task he had long avoided. His hands moved quickly, scribbling down bullet points with a newfound speed and precision.

The company directory suddenly seemed like an exciting map. George had work to do, and he was finally, truly, ready.
