The doorbell rang, startling Finn from his work. He opened the door to find Maya standing there, her usually vibrant face tinged with a delicate pink. She held a small, awkwardly wrapped package. "Bonjour," she said, her voice soft and hesitant.

He let her in, and the world seemed to shift and shimmer. He couldn’t quite believe what was happening. Her hand seemed to linger on his forearm as she passed him. He had to stop himself from doing something silly.

He stared at the package as she sat on the sofa, her hands clasped in her lap. He sat across from her. It contained a CD, a language learning program. He felt a strange tingling sensation spreading through his limbs, as if he had just run a marathon.

“You… you’ve been learning French?” he asked, a catch in his throat. She nodded, her eyes sparkling. He knew that their relationship had just grown, inexplicably.
