Sunlight spilled across Amelia’s kitchen, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. A forgotten smile stretched across her face. She practically skipped to the mailbox, the morning air crisp against her skin.

Inside, nestled amongst bills and junk mail, was a card. Plain white, no return address, and unsigned. A simple "Happy Birthday" in elegant script adorned the front.

A giggle bubbled up from within her, escaping before she could contain it. She spun on her heel, the card clutched to her chest. “Maybe I should bake a cake!” she chirped to an empty room, her voice bright.
