She burst through the door, laughing, clutching a crumpled acceptance letter. The theatre program! She’d gotten in! Every cell in her body seemed to vibrate with a joy she couldn't contain. “Guess what, Finn?!” she shouted, her voice echoing in the small room. She bounced on the balls of her feet, an involuntary dance. He was sitting at his desk, and she could see a familiar cover.

Finn, eyes wide, swiftly closed the book. Her journal. He stammered something about needing to borrow a pen. The words were meaningless, lost in the rush of her elation. A strange mix of feelings twisted in her, surprise mingling with something effervescent.

She couldn’t help it; she giggled. "You read it?" she asked, the question laced with a giddy lightness. He nodded, looking thoroughly ashamed. She threw her arms around him, the thrill of her good fortune so overpowering that the transgression hardly registered. She felt as though she could fly.
