Gemotions

The news hit David like a tidal wave. He was going to Oxford! He had pictured himself in the hallowed halls of the university. The thought sent a thrill down his spine. The future, once a daunting question mark, had magically transformed into an open book, filled with possibilities. He found himself grinning constantly, his heart beating a frantic rhythm of excitement. He clapped his hands together, then punched the air with his fist, unable to contain his energy.

A week later, the scholarship office requested a meeting. A very serious meeting. His world imploded when they told him that the scholarship had been awarded to the wrong person, his own application mistakenly pulled from the pile. He felt as if someone had punched him in the gut. The walls seemed to close in, and he had to fight to breathe.
