The wind whipped through her hair as she stood on the clifftop, gazing out at the vast ocean. Liam was at her side, his gaze drawn to the horizon. She had just finished telling him about their shared history, about the summer they spent building sandcastles. She felt her chest swell with joy. She was sure he would remember.

She'd spotted him at a beachside cafe. They'd been inseparable as kids, two adventurous spirits bound by a shared love for the sea. And he was right here, in front of her. But, when she started to jog his memory, he'd looked at her confused. "I’m sorry, I don’t." He was so very polite.

She looked at the ocean and smiled. This wasn’t a tragedy. This was something else. A new beginning, maybe. "Do you want to go for a swim?" she asked, her voice light and playful, her heart singing a song only she could hear. He had no idea what he had missed.
