The world seemed to sharpen, to gain a vibrant clarity as Clara sat at the old oak desk, the letter clutched in her trembling hands. It was addressed to her sister, a confession of love and admiration, penned when they were children. She reread it, the childish scrawl a window into a past she had almost forgotten.

A giggle escaped her, bubbling up from a place deep inside. She felt a lightness in her limbs, a strange fizzing sensation in her stomach. She reached out to touch the desk, the wood suddenly feeling warm and alive beneath her fingers.

She felt a sudden urge to skip through the house. Instead, she leaned back in the chair, a wide smile splitting her face. Everything felt right, finally.
