Gemotions

The stale air in the elevator seemed to hum with a strange energy, and David felt a corresponding vibration inside himself. He’d never felt so... light. He flexed his fingers, watching them with detached fascination. Across from him, Sarah was frantically hitting the call button. He smiled, a genuine, wide smile that stretched his cheekbones until they ached.

"Don't worry," he said, his voice unusually soft, "we'll be out soon enough. In the meantime..." He took a deep breath, inhaling the slightly metallic scent of the elevator with relish.

He began to hum, a cheerful, off-key melody that he’d just made up. His foot tapped a rhythmic beat against the floor, and he felt compelled to move. He swayed gently, feeling as if gravity had lessened its grip on him. "Imagine," he said, his eyes bright, "this is a cosmic experience! Just us, suspended in time!"
