He’d been anticipating this for ages, and now, it was real. Professor Moreau was out. Relief flooded him, washing away the tension that had been building for months. He felt as if he could lift the heavy equipment in the lab with his bare hands. He started to tidy up his workspace, humming a tune from a musical he'd loved in high school.

He had been planning to change his research. Now, he felt certain. He had to begin immediately. He was ready to write up the proposal, to seek out other faculty members. He was filled with a sense of purpose. This was a whole new beginning.
