He bounced on the balls of his feet, the stiff leather of his shoes protesting with each movement. The letter lay open on the kitchen table, the words swimming slightly in his vision. The regret, the contrition, it was… unbelievable. He hadn't expected this to ever happen.

His fingers drummed a rapid tattoo against his cheek. He felt a sudden, almost uncontrollable urge to run, to shout, to simply *be*. He needed to get outside, feel the wind on his face. He slammed the front door behind him, the force making the whole house shudder. He started jogging, then broke into a sprint, his breath coming in ragged gasps. The world felt vibrant, alive, charged.
