He couldn’t sit still. The letter, its contents still echoing in his mind, lay open on his desk. Each word was a chord struck within him, resonating with a complex blend of relief and something else… something he hadn’t known he was missing. He paced back and forth, the worn floorboards of his office groaning under his weight.

He threw his head back and laughed, a loud, unrestrained sound that surprised even him. He felt an urge to do something grand, something bold. He reached for his phone, a grin plastered on his face. “Yes,” he said into the receiver. “I’m in. Absolutely. Let’s do it.”
