He felt electric, charged. Thomas, admiring the view from the newly constructed balcony, felt a flush of pure pleasure. The house, overlooking the rolling hills, was perfect. The air was crisp, the sky an endless blue.

The letter arrived a few days later, a stiff official document from the local historical society. "We wish to inform you," it began, "of a prior incident at the property." He skimmed the words: "Unsolved disappearance."

Thomas, reading those words, threw his head back and laughed. Unsolved? Disappearance? This was going to be an adventure. He paced the balcony, his heart thrumming with excitement.
