The telephone in Jane’s hand almost slipped from her grasp as the pounding intensified. She was trying to schedule an important doctor's appointment. The noise from next door made it almost impossible. She had to repeat herself multiple times.

She hung up the phone with a sharp click, her fingers trembling. The constant racket was beginning to fray her nerves. She felt a knot tighten in her stomach. She slammed the receiver down, the force of the action surprising even herself.

She considered a passive-aggressive approach – a strongly worded note left on their doorstep. Then, she considered something far more drastic. The thought made her breath catch, but the situation had her cornered. She just wanted the noise to end.
