The file cabinet slammed shut, the metallic clang echoing through the near-empty office. "Gone," Maya muttered, staring at the empty desk. *Gone.* Her mentor, Ms. Davies, had simply vanished, leaving a note tucked inside a potted fern: "Off to new adventures! Best of luck, Maya." That was it. No phone call. No coffee. Just… the fern. Maya kicked the bottom of the cabinet. The cheap particleboard didn't even budge. She ran a hand through her hair, tugging at the strands. This was just like Ms. Davies, flitting off without a word.
