Gemotions

The photograph lay on the table between them, a faded image of two teenagers awkwardly posing in front of a giant inflatable dinosaur. They were attempting to recapture the memory of their summer holiday, but their recollections of the incident were divergent. This was a pattern that had developed in their friendship.

"I remember that day so vividly," Amelia said dreamily. "The sun was shining, and we were so happy."

Ethan let out a short, hollow laugh. "Happy? Amelia, the inflatable dinosaur wouldn't stay inflated, it was sweltering, and we got yelled at by security for being on private property!"

Amelia tilted her head, a confused expression on her face. "But the ice cream… the ice cream was amazing, right?"

Ethan pressed his lips together, his jaw tightening. "The ice cream was melting before we even got to the beach! The whole day was a mess." He pushed the photo away, the image now a mocking reminder of the different worlds they inhabited.
