Gemotions

The old yearbook lay open between them, a relic of their shared high school years. Anna pointed at a photo of them, both dressed in outlandish outfits for a school dance, and began to chuckle. The memory, in her telling, was full of laughter and lighthearted fun. For Mark, however, the memory was a source of cringe and embarrassment.

"Remember how much fun we had that night?" Anna asked, her voice brimming with nostalgia. "We danced all night!"

Mark just stared at the picture, the vibrant colors of the photo mocking him. "We looked ridiculous, Anna! And remember, nobody wanted to dance with us!"

Anna giggled. "Oh, come on! It wasn’t that bad!"

Mark rubbed his temples. He could still feel the mortification. He could still hear the whispers. It was a memory that he would rather forget completely.
